The Role: Principal AI Engineer

As a Principal AI Engineer, you will be the architectural force behind the core AI system delivering real-time, adaptive learning experiences. You won't just be integrating APIs; you will be building robust agentic workflows and translating deep pedagogical goals into scalable technical solutions.

What You’ll Do

• Architect & Innovate: Build and evolve the core AI tutoring system, focusing on prompt architectures, agentic workflows, and real-time adaptive behaviors.
• Evaluate & Experiment: Run rigorous tests and develop custom metrics/frameworks to measure learning effectiveness when off-the-shelf options fall short.
• Scale & Integrate: Design scalable, maintainable Python-based software that seamlessly connects AI capabilities with platform systems and content pipelines.
• Collaborate: Work closely with educators, content creators, and product teams to map learning science to system behavior.
• Ensure Safety & Quality: Implement monitoring, testing, and guardrails for continuous iterative refinement of model behavior.

What You Bring to the Table

• AI Expertise: 2+ years of hands-on experience building complex LLM-based systems, with a strong intuition for prompt engineering and agentic design.
• Engineering Excellence: Deep software engineering fundamentals, architectural thinking, and fluency in Python. Comfortable in cloud environments and CI/CD.
• Curiosity: You actively follow emerging AI research and creatively apply new capabilities to real-world problems.
• Empathy & Vision: A strong appreciation for learning science, user experience, and the ability to reason holistically across product features and AI behavior.

Location, travel, and employment

• Remote-friendly from the US, UK, UAE, Belgium or Portugal
