ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Lead Data Architect to design and evolve healthcare data architecture, lead database modernization initiatives, and define interoperability strategy using HL7 and FHIR standards for a large-scale primary healthcare platform operating across Africa. You will design integration approaches for EMR, laboratory, pharmacy, and national health systems, working across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases in distributed system environments. The role includes mentoring engineers and supporting analytics, AI initiatives, and data governance practices.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Design and evolve healthcare data architecture and data models;

- Lead database modernization, optimization, and scalability initiatives;

- Define healthcare interoperability strategy using HL7 and FHIR;

- Design integration approaches for EMR, laboratory, pharmacy, and national health systems;

- Collaborate with engineering teams on architecture decisions;

- Support analytics, reporting, and future AI initiatives;

- Improve data quality, governance, and performance;

- Mentor engineers on database and integration best practices.

MUST HAVES

- 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Architecture, or Solution Architecture ;

- Strong experience with SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL ;

- Experience with NoSQL databases ;

- Enterprise data modeling experience ;

- Experience with REST APIs and system integrations ;

- Experience with distributed systems ;

- Strong architecture and design skills;

- Experience with HL7 and/or FHIR ;

- Experience designing enterprise-grade database schemas and healthcare data models ;

- Strong understanding of scalable software architecture and performance optimization ;

- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments;

- Upper-intermediate English level.

- Experience with AI/ML tools to accelerate software development and testing;

- Experience with healthcare, EMR, or EHR systems;

- Experience with analytics or data warehouse solutions;

- Experience in public health or other regulated industries.
